PD Alberta

Introduction | For Parents | 2 Day Workshops | Information

Mary Jane Moreau, Sr. Manager of Outreach and Teacher Training for Alberta, and Benn Goddard, Manager of Outreach and Teacher Training, will show you how applying JUMP principles can help expand your knowledge of math and confidence as a math teacher, while making math classes more effective, more enjoyable, and less stressful for you and your students.

Mary Jane has over 20 years of elementary teaching experience, in public, private and Catholic schools.  She has used JUMP Math materials and methodologies extensively and worked closely with founder Dr. John Mighton.  The first year she used JUMP Math with her grade 5 students, she raised their class average percentile ranking from the 66th percentile on a standardized test to the 92nd percentile.  Her second class moved from the 54th to the 98th percentiles in one year. See Mary Jane on YouTube.

Benn Goddard taught for 10 years in the UK. He began his teaching career at an international private school before moving into the state system for 9 years. There he taught 11 to 18 year-olds in extremely diverse schools in the East of London. During the latter part of his time in London he became aware of profound gaps in the mathematical understanding of his students. These gaps were having a huge effect on their confidence and acting as a barrier to future educational pathways. His research and work in trying to close these gaps ultimately led him to JUMP Math and he was delighted to join the team in August 2013 following his relocation to Calgary.
